It is a well known fact that most people do not drink enough water. Water is nature’s perfect invention, it is calorie free, healthy, a necessity for the body and provides energy. For those who are trying to lose weight, or are on a diet, water can help to lose weight, in more ways than one.

Water is the body’s main chemical component and makes up an average of 60% of your body weight. Every vital body system depends on water. It helps to flush out toxins, moistens the throat, ear and nose tissues, and carries nutrients to the cells, as well as, a variety of other benefits that water provides.

If a person does not drink enough water, dehydration can occur, which is a condition that affects normal body functions, and it leads to a range of mild to severe tiredness and lack of energy or even death.

The body’s water needs to be replenished everyday because most of it evaporates through breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. A lot of foods and drinks have water in them, which is good, but often times, it’s not enough and so you need to drink pure water as well.

There are many theories and approaches to what is enough water for each individual. There is the 8, 8 oz glasses a day. The replacement approach which states that you need about 8-9 glasses a day to replace water weight loss through urination and bowel movements. And the urine test, where if your urine looks very light in color and clear, then that means that you are getting enough water daily.

For those who are losing weight, and are on a diet plan, water is a beneficial and crucial part of success in weight loss. It not only has physical affects on dieting, it also helps psychologically.

1. Start your day with a full glass of water. Starting the day with water helps to energize the body, help with morning hunger and generally give you a fresh clean start everyday.

2. Drink a full glass or more with every meal. Water has the perfect ability to make you feel more full as you are eating, you will eat less. This is an especially good way that water helps to lose weight in the beginning of a diet when eating less is more of a difficulty and your body is adjusting to smaller portions and adapting to new eating habits.

3. Drink water when hungry between meals. Often times thirst is disguised by a feeling of hunger. The next time that you are feeling hungry, or want to snack between meals, or want to cheat on your diet, drink a big glass of water instead. You will find that this is an effective way to stick with your diet and a great way that water helps to lose weight.

4. The Water and Fruit Trick. One of the best tricks and ways that water helps to lose weight is to combine water with a piece of fruit. Apple’s work great. Just eat a small piece of apple, like a half or a quarter with a glass of water and this combination works great to make you feel satisfied and curb hunger. Depending on your diet plan, you can eat the fruit and water in between meals or before a meal, you will be amazed at how much less you will feel hungry and how more satisfied you will be at meal time with less food.
